I am Willow or Will (they/them/theirs)!

I founded Spiral Community in an attempt to bring together the work I have been doing for nearly a decade and a half. The 'spiral' in Spiral Community represents the winding ways in which many of us engage with growth, life and exploration. And as I move forward in this work, I know that community is at the center.

My journey has been anything but linear. As a white, nonbinary, queer educator, consultant and birth-worker I have been focused on equity and change for transgender and queer clients throughout their sexual and reproductive lives. 

 

This work began at a micro level while serving clients as a doula, childbirth educator and patient advocate. From that vantage point it became quite evident that while supporting each client was important work, there were larger issues to tackle. So I went back to school and earned a degree in Women, Gender and Sexuality studies with a minor in history – this offered me a chance to research and explore so much of what has led us to where we are culturally, socially and systematically in relation to birth, fertility and sex in our country. Most recently I completed a Masters in Social Work with a focus in research on transgender fertility and family-building.

Throughout my educational career I held positions in birthwork as well as consulting roles that focused on training providers and coaching the healthcare facilities that were offering a range of reproductive services from abortion to infertility support and everything in between.

It has not been a short journey, or one that is easy to articulate, but it is a journey that has allowed me to nurture a wide-range of skills and lean into a plethora of passions.
